IMAT & the pathway to Italy

Medicine in English.
Public Italian universities.
A guided pathway to Italy.

medtrainit helps your child prepare for the IMAT — the entrance exam for English-taught Medicine at public Italian universities.

Medtrainit Consultancy — a separate, independent organisation based in India — guides the whole family through the wider journey: universities, documents, the visa stage, accommodation and arrival.

Guided support with preparation and documentation. We do not promise guaranteed admission, seats, visas or outcomes — every admission, ranking, visa and registration decision rests with the universities, official ranking systems, embassies and regulators, and must be verified with those official sources.

01 / What families are really facing

Getting into medical school in Italy is not just about passing the IMAT.

A strong IMAT score matters. But it is one step in a longer journey — and most families lose time, money or a seat on the steps around it. To study Medicine in Italy, a student usually has to:

01Choose the right university and course
02Register correctly on the official Universitaly portal
03Sit the IMAT and score well for their category
04Rank within the seats available to them
05Prepare and legalise documents correctly
06Complete a Declaration of Value (DoV) or CIMEA, if required
07Apply for and obtain a student visa
08Complete final enrolment in Italy

A high IMAT score helps — but on its own it does not guarantee a final place.

02 / The journey, in three parts

Prepare. Apply. Arrive.

The whole journey breaks into three clear stages. Families work through them with guided support at each point.

Stage 01 · Prepare

Prepare

Confirm the student's category, shortlist English-taught public universities, build the IMAT preparation plan with medtrainit, and start gathering documents early — long before the exam.

Stage 02 · Apply

Apply

Pre-enrol on Universitaly, register for and sit the IMAT, follow the rankings as they update, and confirm the place once a seat is offered.

Stage 03 · Arrive

Arrive

Prepare the student-visa documents, find safe accommodation, plan travel, and settle the first essentials in Italy — tax code, residence permit, health registration and a bank account.

03 / Two organisations, two clear roles

Who provides what.

It is important to be clear about which organisation does what — because they are separate, independently registered businesses.

Universitaly & applicationsMedtrainit Consultancy
Assistance with the official Universitaly portal, deadline tracking, and a careful review of the application before it is submitted.

A Type-D student-visa document checklist, help organising financial and supporting documents, and preparation for the embassy or consulate appointment. This is informational support only — the visa decision always rests with the embassy/consulate.

Travel & arrivalMedtrainit Consultancy
Support with flights, airport pickup, orientation for the first days, and setting up a local SIM and phone.

Help with the essentials after landing: Codice Fiscale (tax code), Permesso di Soggiorno (residence permit), health registration (SSN), opening a bank account, and completing university enrolment.
Parent communicationMedtrainit Consultancy
Regular updates for parents, an emergency contact point, and guidance on visiting — so families stay informed throughout.
Career awarenessMedtrainit Consultancy
Informational, country-specific guidance on possible career routes after graduation (for example the UK, Ireland, Germany, Switzerland and the wider EU) — so families understand the longer picture. Registration and licensing rules vary and change, and must be verified with the relevant national medical regulator.

06 / Recognition & routes

Where an Italian medical degree can lead.

An Italian medical degree from a public university can open routes in several regions. None of the following is automatic or guaranteed — each depends on meeting that country's own requirements.

Europe (EU / EEA)

EU / EEA routes

Italian medical degrees are recognised across the EU/EEA under Directive 2005/36/EC, generally without a lengthy equivalency assessment. Registration still depends on meeting each country's own requirements.

UK & Ireland

UK & Ireland routes

Graduates may pursue registration routes in the UK and Ireland through the relevant medical regulators and any required examinations. Requirements are set by those regulators and can change.

Beyond Europe

Wider routes

Licensing routes may exist further afield — for example Australia (AMC), Canada (MCCQE), the United States (USMLE) and Gulf states — each through separate examinations and national processes.

Important — verify everything

Recognition, registration, visa and licensing rules change and vary by country. Nothing here is a promise that a degree will be recognised, or that a graduate will be able to register or practise, in any particular place. Always verify the current rules with the relevant national medical regulator and official authorities before making any decision. Medtrainit Consultancy and Edtrainit Ltd do not provide immigration, registration or legal advice.

07 / Why guided support

A long journey with many official steps.

The aim is simple: fewer wrong turns, less wasted time, and a family that always knows what comes next.

01Many official steps, deadlines and documents sit between today and a seat in Italy. One missed deadline or wrong entry can be costly.
02Support sits alongside the family for the whole journey — from first university research to the first days in Italy.
03Some services are delivered together with specialist partner providers, chosen for each part of the journey.
04All guidance is informational. Every official decision is verified with the relevant authority — universities, embassies, regulators.
05No one can promise a guaranteed seat, admission or visa. Anyone who does should be treated with caution.

08 / Get started

Start with a free pathway call.

A short, no-pressure conversation about your child's situation, the universities that fit, and the steps ahead.
